Today, the Texas Transportation Commission, the five-member governing body of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), approved the 2023 Uniform Transportation Program (UTP), scheduling approximately $2.5 billion to be allocated to the Pharr TxDOT District for transportation infrastructure over the next 10 years. The region includes the following counties: Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, Willacy, Zapata, Jim Hogg, Brooks, and Kenedy.

“The 2023 UTP is a record-setting transportation funding schedule for the State of Texas,” said Chairman Terry Canales of the House Committee on Transportation. “This UTP is about $10 billion more than last year, primarily as a result of Congress and President Biden passing into law the once-in-a-generation Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” Canales continued. “This investment in our region will help the Rio Grande Valley continue to address our congestion and safety challenges and keep up with the growing infrastructure demands from our increasing population and economic development,” said Canales. “I am grateful that the Commission has continued to keep their focus on the expanding importance of South Texas,” he continued.

Texas law requires TxDOT to create a statewide infrastructure program each year to forecast transportation infrastructure developments across the state. This program is referred to as the UTP. To see the 2023 UTP and the list of transportation projects, please see the link below:
