The Texas Transportation Commission, the five-member governing body of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), approved the 2022 Uniform Transportation Program (UTP), scheduling approximately $2 billion to be allocated to the entire South Texas region for transportation infrastructure over the next 10 years.

For state planning purposes, the region includes the following counties: Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, Willacy, Zapata, Jim Hogg, Brooks, and Kenedy.

“Over the last few years, the Rio Grande Valley has been the recipient of a windfall of infrastructure dollars, and this UTP cycle is very promising as well," said Chairman Terry Canales of the House Committee on Transportation. "These infrastructure dollars will trickle into our region year-after-year for the next 10 years, and they will fund new highway construction, road improvements, bridge maintenance, and other critical transportation infrastructure," he continued. "I am pleased that the Commission is continuing to listen to our needs and is recognizing the extraordinary value that our region is providing to the entire state,” Canales said.

Texas law requires TxDOT to create a statewide infrastructure program each year to forecast transportation infrastructure developments across the state. This program is referred to as the UTP. To see the full 2022 UTP, please see the link below:
