The City of Edinburg has been recognized on the floors of the Texas House and Senate.

Resolutions from state Sen. Juan Hinojosa and state Rep. Terry Canales declared Jan. 18, 2025, as Edinburg Day at the State Capitol.

Lawmakers praised Edinburg for winning an historic 4th All-America City title. They also noted that Edinburg is one of the fastest growing cities in Texas.

“I very much appreciate the recognition for our city being one of two cities that were designated all American city in 2024. It's a huge honor,” said Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza.

“So, we're thankful to Senator Hinojosa, Chairman Canales, and Representative (R.D. ‘Bobby’) Guerra and the whole delegation for recognizing our city. It's not about us individually, it's about our community. So I'm just happy to be here to represent our city and take that recognition back home.”

Sen. Hinojosa said of the All-America City title: “This award celebrates communities that find innovative ways to engage community members in activities that strengthen local democracy, encourage participation in community affairs, and serve in leadership roles. This was the fourth time Edinburg has received this prestigious award.”

Hinojosa said Edinburg has a lot going for it.

“As the county seat of Hidalgo County, Edinburg is one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas. It is home to UTRGV and the School of Medicine, and it serves as the headquarters for the U.S. Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector. I was honored to recognize Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza, members of the City Council, city staff, and many other business and community leaders visiting the Capitol today to advocate for issues important to the City of Edinburg.”
