This week, Texas State Representative Terry Canales (D-Edinburg) was appointed by Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows to serve as a member on the newly established Texas Bicentennial Commission, created by Senate Bill 1350 during the 89th Texas Legislative Session.

As a State Representative for House District 40 and the Rio Grande Valley, I am deeply concerned by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) decision to rescind grant funding for the non-profit Holistic Organic Practical Education for Small Farm Sustainability (H.O.P.E).

Yesterday, Speaker of the House Dustin Burrows issued interim charges to House Standing Committees and Subcommittees as well as newly created Select Committees.

Graciela Moreno Chavana on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 was presented a framed House of Representatives Memorial Resolution – along with a Texas State Flag flown over the Texas State Capitol in Austin – both honoring her late husband, David Arnoldo Chavana, from Rep. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg, in the Council Chambers at Edinburg City Hall.

This week, my Capitol staff attended a ceremony honoring the late Chairman J. Bruce Bugg, Jr., with the unveiling of his official commission portrait at the Texas Department of Transportation Headquarters in commemoration of his esteemed service and enduring contributions.

Representative Canales strongly supports Governor Abbott’s signature of House Concurrent Resolution 13, a critical resolution passed during the Special Session, calling for urgent federal action to prevent the spread of the New World Screwworm into Texas.

Yesterday, I voted against House Bill 4, a mid-decade redistricting bill not based on equal representation for our voters, but a power grab to help ensure that one party holds on to power.
