McALLEN — The mass graves of suspected unidentified immigrants buried haphazardly in a South Texas cemetery and uncovered this month by anthropologists should be secured by state police until a criminal investigation can be carried out, a Texas lawmaker said Sunday.

Rio Grande Valley officials reacted largely with gratitude to the Wednesday news that Texas leaders directed the state Department of Public Safety to help U.S. Border Patrol at unspecified points on the state’s border with Mexico. 

The overcrowding at immigrant detention facilities has everybody's attention nowadays. State Representative Terry Canales of Edinburg's 40th District took a tour of one. He later went on Facebook saying he broke down in tears afterward.
