Retiring Edinburg Mayor is honored

Edinburg City Council Members honored their retiring mayor, Ramiro Garza with a specially called meeting in his honor. 

Garza spoke about how he made Edinburg his home, his work as leader of the city's economic development corporation, city manager, and mayor, and why he chose not to run for re-election. 

A slideshow of photos was displayed on a big screen and there was a strong endorsement by state Rep. Terry Canales of Edinburg.

“Edinburg was making some headlines for the wrong reasons. And with your election, your inauguration(as mayor), you led us away from some dark moments and your steady hand and steady leadership will never be forgotten,” Canales said.

“I want you to know that you embody what I look for when I vote for somebody. That is honesty and integrity. I want you to know and Maria to know that you're not done. So, I don't know what your next step will be but public service is your calling and you are a hell of a public servant. Thank you so much.”

Two former Edinburg mayors were in attendance, Joe Ochoa and Richard Garcia.
